Well, just like that a new year arrives bringing hope, or perhaps a fresh start? As I grow another year older my expectations for a new page in the calendar are much simpler: I would like to have more sleep and I hope that my nearest and dearest are healthy and content. The pursuit of a good night’s sleep seems never-ending and my search will continue this year, but I now know that everything is a phase and I can look forward to something resembling a good sleep in the next 10-20 years. As for being healthy and content, small changes can make a big difference, so I will carry on trying to make the best of every day in little ways – a walk in the sun, warm fires and snuggly blankets, the occasional half an hour to myself (a woman can dream). Small and manageable doesn’t sound as radical as a ‘youthquake’ but at least I have half a chance of success if I focus on less actually being more.
Time is very precious now that I have no time to myself, so it was very welcome when Spa Experience in Welwyn Garden City invited me to have a look around their Hertfordshire spa and try out one of their treatments. If you want to make more time for yourself this year then Spa Experience in Welwyn Garden City is a real find as it’s open until 8pm Monday to Friday, so early evening appointments are a reality!
Spa Experience in Welwyn Garden City is inside the Gosling Sports Park. There’s plenty of 3 hours free parking, just don’t forget that you still need to display a ticket! Once the doors to the spa close behind me there is welcome quiet. Although I am trying to make time for myself, that time is not infinite, so I choose a 25 minute manicure. The manicures are carried out in an area to the side of the entrance foyer, so there are other clients coming and going. If you want complete peace and relaxation then go for a pedicure or one of the many other treatments, as these are carried out in the private treatment rooms. There’s a whole range of beauty treatments available and you can save 30% on treatments booked on Tuesdays using the offer code TREAT30*, just call Spa Experience on 01707 384388 to book.
It was lovely to be pampered and everyone was friendly and helpful. The express manicure uses a ‘seven-day’ nail polish, with a top coat which gives a gel-like finish. As the express manicure uses nail polish I hadn’t factored in that I needed to leave time at the end of manicure to let the polish dry. In hindsight it takes the same amount of time to have the Gel Manicure and leave with Shellac nails that can withstand life with a house full of boys. This just shows you what a novice I am! The advantage to the nail polish manicure is that you get to spend the ‘drying time’ in the relaxation area, a quiet sanctuary with comfy recliners, soft towels and complimentary water and fresh fruit.
If I’d had more time then I would have loved to explore the thermal spa with its hydrotherapy pool, monsoon shower and sauna, or tried one of the massages or body therapies. It’s a hidden oasis and I really liked what I saw, now I need to make the time to see more of Spa Experience.
So here’s to trying to make the best of every day in small ways, including finding more time for myself this year, however brief those moments are. I hope that 2018 brings laughter, warmth, contentment and cuddles but most of all, at least one night of dream-filled and un-interrupted, beautiful sleep.
