I haven’t been out for a curry in a very long time, so it was a refreshing change for me to meet some friends to try the new menu at Infuse Indian restaurant in St Albans, Hertfordshire. I’d heard very good things about the food and friendly service, so I had high hopes. Click here to take a look inside the restaurant.

The decor was colourful, modern and relaxed. It was the perfect spot for a meal out with friends, or it would be equally suited to a date night (if you’re lucky enough to get out of the house) or a pre-theatre meal.
The menu at Infuse tries to do something a bit different to your standard curry house offering. You can order a selection of small plates and enjoy an Indian tapas-style meal, or there are more traditional options to choose from too.
The small plates are a great idea, especially if you are sharing, as you get to try lots of different dishes and flavours. The owner recommended the Tandoori Chicken Momo and red chilli chutney. I’d never seen or heard of a Chicken Momo before and I am so glad that I tried something new as I absolutely loved them… think melt-in-the-mouth spicy chicken dumplings! Delicious.
If you’re ordering small plates then I really enjoyed the Chicken Malai Tikka, Tandoori Chicken Momo, Lamb Seekh Kebab Roll, Yellow Dal Tadka and the naughty but oh-so-nice Chilli Cheese Naan. Yes… naan bread with cheese inside, which is essentially an Indian-style cheese toastie, but I’d never had one before and now I can’t wait to go back and have another.
If you’d rather stick to a more traditional curry house experience then the Chicken Biryani Zaffrani got my vote. It was cooked with its own naan ‘hat,’ which was expertly removed at the table.
For drinks I would recommend that you stick to beer, wine or soft drinks as the cocktails needed work and I’m afraid that I had to send one back. Infuse is a new restaurant and in this area it was still finding its feet, but the owner was very happy to change my drink once I mentioned that the cocktail I’d ordered wasn’t to my taste.
If you can’t make it to the restaurant then it’s great to know that Infuse is on Just Eat, or you can call and pick up a takeaway.
We had a fantastic night at Infuse in St Albans, it wasn’t too busy and we could relax, take our time and enjoy great food in good company. Infuse is a hidden gem, tucked away down one of the side streets in St Albans, but well worth seeking out, even if it’s just for the Tandoori Chicken Momo dumplings!
