Little Red Riding Hood is this year’s Hertford Theatre Panto and it has everything you hope for in a fantastic family pantomime. This is a professional, polished production filled with warmth and fun, outstanding voices, sensational songs and pyrotechnics. Add live music, audience participation, a trap door and a chicken and you have a show that left us feeling panto-tastic!
When we were invited to go along and see Little Red Riding Hood I wasn’t sure what to expect. There was no need to worry as this Big Bad Wolf is not to be feared. Mr B.B. Wolf is a funky, furry character with a twist in his tail.
Get ready to travel to Red Square in Russia where Simple Simon is going to sell his three little pigs – yes, this isn’t your standard re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood. The Hertford Theatre panto is a very special mix of two tales with a wolf, woven together to create a unique and fabulous family show.
Expect bright and colourful sets and costumes, spectacular singing and musical arrangements that will delight all ages. Listen carefully and you will hear some treats from the Spice Girls, MC Hammer, Coldplay and Jessie J, along with family favourites like ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ and even a bit of Queen and Gloria Gaynor!
This was our first journey into pantoland as a family and the verdict was a huge thumbs up. There were plenty of opportunities to ‘boo’ and ‘hiss’ and I defy anyone not to fall in love with the Three Little Pigs. Even in the Enchanted Wood, that is filled with ghosts and bats, the Wild One (5 years old) was actually rolling about in his seat with laughter.
Babushka masterfully steers the show through twists and turns to ensure that the audience gets a panto to remember, for all the right reasons. If you’ve got tickets for Little Red Riding Hood at the Hertford Theatre this year you are in for a real treat!
If you haven’t been to the Hertford Theatre before, it is a fantastic modern theatre with raked seating so you get a great view. It’s also small enough so you really feel part of the action but big enough to hold a good audience for plenty of atmosphere.
Little Red Riding Hood at the Hertford Theatre runs until Sunday 1st January 2017, for more information or to book tickets visit http://www.hertfordtheatre.com
