Mokuru are the latest fidget toy to arrive in stores. They are made of beech wood, come in a range of colours and they are a sleek design, nice to hold in your hand and you can easily pop it in your pocket. We opened our Mokuru and after some Googling… and a bit of practice… we managed to master a few Mokuru tricks.
The Mokuru is a surprisingly addictive toy and you really want to try again and again to get the Mokuru tricks right… but it does take a little time and practice. The more you play, the better you get!
Start with the simple flip. You simply push the Mokuru over and after one flip you stop it in an upright position. Then flip it back to where you started. Rocking the Mokuru back and forth is strangely satisfying but it does take a little time to perfect the skill. Part of the fun is that you won’t get it every time. See how many times you can rock your Mokuru forwards and backwards before it falls down.
Once you get the hang of the simple flip you can try and let the Mokuru flip over more than once before you stop it. Try a double flip and watch the Mokuru flip over twice. You can even try a triple flip!
Use the simple flip to create the shape of a square. Flip your Mokuru away from you, then to the left, then down and then to the right, so your Mokuru ends up back where you started!
Use the simple flip to create the shape of a triangle. Flip your Mokuru away from you at an angle to the left, then flip it down to the left, then right back to the beginning. You can even challenge yourself to make a double triangle and flip your Mokuru twice to create each side of the triangle shape.
Flip and Hold
The flip and hold is one of the most difficult Mokuru tricks. Flip the Mokuru and then catch it on the back of your hand. To make it even more difficult you can try and flip the Mokuru twice before you catch it.
Get your friends to play with you and play a Mokuru version of ‘catch’. Flip the Mokuru to a friend and get them to flip it back to you. Your friend must stop the Mokuru using the palm of their hand, so the Mokuru stands in the upright position. Who will be the first to drop the stop?
See how many rolls you can get before your Mokuru stops flipping. Who can get the most number of flips?
Mokuru helps focus and concentration, as well as alleviating stress. It definitely requires concentration to master and it’s a lot of fun to play with. It is a simple wooden toy and we keep coming back to this one again and again.
