Pop Up Farm – Sunflower Field UK

4 August 2018 by Kirsty 4 Comments

The Pop Up Farm opened its gates once more this week so you can choose your own sunflowers in the Sunflower Field. This is the summer of sunshine and the fields at The Pop Up Farm are filled with golden yellow sunflowers.

SEE WHAT HAPPENED ON OUR VISIT TO THE SUNFLOWER FIELD ON IGtv (just click the image to play)

Sunflower Field UK

The Pop Up Farm is just off the roundabout at Junction 9 of the M1. We arrived with hats, suncream and rambled up the path flanked by hay bales.

A member of the Pop Up Farm’s friendly staff took us into the sunflower field. You have to carefully wind your way through the tall sunflowers to choose your favourites and the Pop Up Farm staff cut your chosen blooms for you. I was hoping to have a relaxed wander around the sunflowers and take lots of photos but you go into the field accompanied by a sunflower sommelier, you choose your sunflowers and then go back out of the field.

The Pop Up Farm Sunflowers

There are 10 different varieties of sunflower to choose from. Once we had made our selection we wandered back down to pay. Sunflowers are £2 a stem, £5 if there’s more than one flower on a stem, or 7 sunflowers for £10.

We sat down for some popcorn and a drink but the sun was hot and there wasn’t anywhere particularly comfortable to sit in the shade, so we headed home. It’s a nice trip out but we were there for less than one hour, so it’s not a day out.

The Pop Up Farm is a field on a working farm, so the facilities are limited. We brought home some lovely sunflowers but I’d like to go back to take more photographs and make the most of the sunshine.

You’ll find The Pop Up Farm at junction 9 of the M1, AL3 8HT.  Visit their Facebook Page for updates on opening times as the fields will close once the sunflowers are finished.

Hi Marilen. Follow the farm on Facebook for opening times and updates but I don’t think the farm will still be open in the first week in September. Sorry.

  • If you're looking for inspiration for the half term holidays, or weekends now that the weather is warming up, then there's a post full of ideas on the blog.⠀
🦕🦕🦕🦕🦕⠀
Last year we were invited to go along and visit the World of Dinosaurs @paradisewildlifepark There are over 20 animatronic dinosaurs to discover in the woods. Are you brave enough to face the Velociraptors and the T-Rex? ⠀

  • Where did the sunshine go? I'm really hoping that we can have a few adventures outdoors this half term. After the last few weeks of coughs, colds and poorly children I think we need to get outside and blow away the cobwebs.
🕸🕸🕸🕸🕸
It makes such a difference to be able to leave the house without several layers, coats, hats, boots and all that, so I've got everything crossed for some warmer weather.
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I'm so ready for a little bit of sunshine. Is that too much to ask for in half term week? Okay... don't answer that!

  • Today was a day filled with blue skies and sunshine and it almost... almost felt like Spring!
🙈🙈🙈🙈
There I’ve said it... so it’s my fault if it snows next week ✨🤣✨ Don’t panic, the weather forecast actually looks good for the half term holidays so we can look forward to exploring and finding more beautiful snowdrops in the woods.
🍃🌿🍃🌿
There’s a huge list of ideas for things to do in the February Half Term holidays on the blog now if you’re in need of inspiration, including where to find these beauties.
💚💚💚💚
I’m just hoping that everyone in this house gets better soon so that we can enjoy one or two adventures. Send healing vibes my way. Happy half term!

  • 💕Happy Valentines Day💕. Just another day... or an excuse to tell the people that mean a lot to you that they're loved? 💕💕💕
We're having another slow day here with poorly boys 🤧 and I'm suffering from serious sleep deprivation 🤪 . IT. NEVER. GETS. ANY. EASIER. 💕💕💕
Still... the sun is shining ☀️, we're nice and cosy and it's fun sorting through Love Hearts to find one with the perfect message on it 🥰. Thank you to @swizzles_sweets for these retro treats [gifted] #sharethelove #valentines #valentinesday2019 #lovehearts #love
  • REVIEW | Last weekend we brightened up a grey day when we were invited to try afternoon tea 🍰 for the family @cromwelloldstevenage because... well... freshly baked scones 🙋🏼 YES PLEASE!
✨🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰✨
The boys were delighted to discover that there is such a thing as a ‘meal’ that consists of scones and lots of different cakes 🧁 and it was a welcome change to do something a little more sophisticated, that also involved being cosy and warm indoors 🙌🏻
✨🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰✨
The scones were served straight from the oven, still warm, light and crumbly... the servings of jam and cream were generous... and it was a picture to see youngest child’s face when he bit into the lemon
meringue tart 🤣🍋🍋🍋🍋🤣
✨🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰✨
I thought the Traditional Afternoon Tea was really good value at £14.95 per person, or you could add a glass of Prosecco for an additional £5🥂🥂. The children’s Afternoon Tea was £7.95 per child. There are no re-fills but frankly I wouldn’t expect that for this money 💷
✨🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰✨
We were so full afterwards that I practically rolled out of the door and we went for a wander in Old Stevenage in an attempt to ‘walk off’ the cake. A good place to go if you don’t want to break the bank and still enjoy good service and freshly prepared treats.
✨🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰✨

  • AD | It’s freezing cold outside, winter has truly arrived! ❄️❄️ Brrr! ❄️❄️ So I was very happy this week when we were invited to enjoy some warm, indoor entertainment at the new @hollywoodbowluk at intu Watford 🙌🏻🛍🙌🏻
.
We all love bowling; it’s something we can all do together. I often find myself on the side-lines whilst the boys are having all the fun but bowling at intu Watford really is for everyone (recommended minimum age for a child to bowl is 4 years old)✨👌🏻✨.
.
As an added bonus parking @intuwatford is now only £2 after 5pm🚙, so you can enjoy the lanes👩‍👦‍👦 and stay for food in the diner🍟, without having to worry about the parking charges racking up💰. .
The boys want to go back soon and visit the new @cineworld 🍿and there’s @rockupadventure 🧗🏻‍♂️too! I’m not complaining... I’m happy to embrace some indoor fun whilst it’s icy cold outside. I might even be allowed to squeeze in some shopping 🛍🛍 and then there’s @gbkburgers and @modpizzauk or @yosushi to try 💁🏼‍♀️
.
The only problem is getting everyone to agree on what to do next 🤦🏼‍♀️.
.
Thank you intu Watford for introducing the new £2 flat rate for parking after 5pm, so I have one less thing to worry about ✨👍🏻✨

  • The sun was shining today. A blue sky makes such a huge difference to my mood, although the cloudless sky also meant freezing cold temperatures.
I went to a new exhibition at @unihertsarts at the weekend that looks at colour and the the effect that it has on us. The photo is of a piece by Jacob Dahlgren which is made from thousands of metres of multi-coloured ribbon, which you can walk through. Simple and beautiful. Now I have to resist the urge to cover the whole house in ribbons and just try the colours instead.

If you want to take a look yourself then the best time to go is Saturdays 11am-3pm as parking is free. The exhibition is small but I enjoyed it and it's on until 7th February 2019 #colours #coloursnap #colourpop #colourinspo #art #artgallery #cultureblogger #hertfordshire #visitherts #visitengland #uharts #uniofherts #ukparentbloggers #pbloggers #pbloggersuk #ukexplore #explore_britain #momentsofmine
