Over the last few weeks we have visited Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire a few times. There’s so much space, it’s a picturesque place to walk and you can hire bikes (booked in advance) and cycle the 9.5 miles all around the reservoir. There’s also a fantastic laser tag arena and we were invited to go and try the Rumble Live experience for ourselves.

Rumble Live is a great way to run around and have a lot of fun. You can enjoy a session as a family or book a session for the kids and relax while they enjoy the Rumble Live experience. Children must be 8 years old or above to play.

Getting ready to Rumble Live
Our Rumble Live experience started with a briefing to run through how the laser gun works and safety in the woodland arena. Rumble Live is a laser tag game and you wear a headband and carry a laser gun, both of which are sanitised before each game. The laser guns have a very long range so there is no need to get close to anyone in order to play the games. The arena is an outdoor woodland with plenty of space and fresh air as well as team bases, sniper towers and over 70 hides. Once we’d learnt how to pull the trigger, reload and respawn it was time to get kitted out and into teams.

Playing Rumble Live
In the arena we were split into the Red Team and the Blue Team. We played several different games during our one hour of game play, the objective changed each time but each game was clearly explained by the Rumble Rangers who organise the teams and ensure everything runs smoothly. At the end of each game we returned to the Ranger’s Cabin at the centre of the arena where you can see information about top players and individual stats on a large TV screen.
It’s lots of fun to run around and shoot at your targets and because the guns are laser guns there aren’t any flying projectiles to dodge, you just need to keep your head down, use the hides to protect yourself and aim accurately. You shoot down a target by firing at the sensors on the opposition’s headbands. The guns are very accurate and each has a sight which makes aiming even easier. There are stations around the arena where you can upload armour or gain health points and if you manage to kill a number of opponents and develop a ‘kill streak’ then you unlock better weapons.

The Verdict
We had a fantastic time at Rumble Live, it’s a great activity to do as a family and eldest and I both really enjoyed the experience and we will book to come again. You do need to be 8 years old or above to play which meant that youngest wasn’t able to join in but there are miles and miles of paths around the reservoir to cycle, scoot or simply walk along and enjoy the views. There was plenty to occupy Mr Mummysphere and youngest while eldest and I were busy at Rumble Live.
After our Rumble Live session we had a picnic on the hill next to the woodland looking out across the water, watching sailing boats and windsurfers. It’s a beautiful setting and you can easily spend the whole day at Grafham Water enjoying the 9.5 mile walk around the reservoir, or you can book in advance and hire bikes from Rutland Cycling.
