It’s the perfect time to start thinking about the Summer holidays and I’ve been taking a look at some of the fantastic family theatre London has to offer in 2018. There’s Mr Stink and Gangsta Granny for David Walliams fans, as well as theatre for younger children who are sure to love The Tiger Who Came To Tea, We’re Going On a Bear Hunt and The Star Seekers. Add a spectacular circus and some Horrible Histories and you can look forward to a Summer filled with culture in the city. If you’re looking for London shows for kids, then take a look at my selection and get booking!

If you want inspiration for some of the best kids shows and family theatre in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire this Summer then take a look my guide to theatre for kids in Herts and Beds. Enjoy x

A stunning stage adaptation of the classic tale of teatime mayhem… expect to be surprised! See some of the best children’s theatre London has to offer this Summer. Visit the website to book your tickets, or for more information.

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt

Lyric Theatre, 29 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, W1D 7ES

We’re Going On a Bear Hunt is brought vividly to the stage in this fun-filled adaptation. Join the intrepid adventurers as they traipse through the swishy swashy grass, wade through the splishy splashy river and squish through the thick oozy mud. Expect catchy songs, interactive scenes and plenty of hands-on adventure. Recommended for children aged 3 years and above and their families. From Wednesday 4th July to Sunday 2nd September 2018, don’t miss the classic children’s theatre London has to offer this Summer. Visit the website to book tickets or for more information.

Mr Stink

Chickenshed, Rayne Theatre, Chase Side, London, N14 4PE

Chickenshed proudly presents a brand new adaptation of David Walliams’ acclaimed book Mr Stink. The very kind, but lonely, 12 year old Chloe invites the homeless Mr Stink and his dog to leave behind the wooden bench where they have taken up residence and secretly move into her family’s shed. Matters become more complicated when Chloe’s mother tries to take credit for Chloe’s generosity. And precisely who is Mr Stink anyway? Visit the Chickenshed Theatre from Wednesday 18th July to Sunday 5th August 2018 for a brilliantly staged version of this warm-hearted and funny story. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You might want to hold your nose. Suitable for children aged 6 years old and above. Visit the website to book tickets or for more information.

Metta’s Little Mermaid – The Circus Sensation

Underbelly Festival, The Southbank, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX

Spectacular circus and spellbinding songs combine in this extraordinary new adaptation from the award-winning Metta Theatre. With awe-inspiring acrobatics, this breathtakingly beautiful production will enchant everyone from 8-108 years old. The Little Mermaid longs for life on land, the Prince is consumed by the lure of the sea. When a raging storm brings them together, the wheels of fate are set in motion. One of the spectacular London shows for kids this Summer, see it from Tuesday 24th July to Sunday 12th August 2018. Visit the website to book tickets or for more information.

Horrible Histories Barmy Britain Part Four

Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, Soho, London, W1D 7EZ

From Thursday 2nd August to Saturday 1st September 2018, don’t miss Horrible Histories – Barmy Britain Part Four at the Apollo Theatre. Be reduced to rubble by the ruthless Romans! Survive axe-factor with the Vikings! Would you be shaken or stirred by Richard III? Can Queen Elizabeth I endure her terrible teeth? Will you be hanged by King James I for being a witch? Prepare yourselves for Horrible Histories live on stage with a brand new show. Visit the website to book tickets, or for more information.

The Star Seekers

National Theatre, Dorfman Theatre, Upper Ground, South Bank, London, SE1 9PX

Enjoy some of the most magical, out of this world family theatre London has to offer this Summer. From Wednesday 8th August to Saturday 1st September 2018 join star seekers Alph, Betty and Gammo on a journey through space, where you take the steering wheel. Inspired by childhood wonder of the universe The Wardrobe Ensemble and The Wardrobe Theatre have created a unique theatrical experience for children. The Star Seekers is an interactive show that explores the limitless majesty of galaxies, the solar system, shooting stars and planets through songs, silliness and anti-gravity antics. Suitable for children aged 3-8 years old. Visit the website to book tickets, or for more information.

Gangsta Granny

Harold Pinter Theatre, Panton Street, London, SW1Y 4DN

Following a successful tour of the UK, Neil Foster’s adaptation of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny comes to the West End for a limited Summer season from Tuesday 14th August to Sunday 26th August 2018. It’s Friday night and Ben knows that means only one thing – staying with Granny! There will be cabbage soup, cabbage pie and cabbage cake to eat – it’s going to be soooooo boring! What Ben doesn’t know is that Granny has a secret and Friday nights are about to get more exciting than he could possibly ever imagine. Suitable for children aged 6 years old and above.  Visit the website to book tickets or for more information.
