The Old Cock Inn Harpenden is now open for lunch and dinner every day. When I visited it was a gloriously sunny day and the atmosphere in the pub and restaurant was light, fresh and airy.

In the summer you can enjoy the new garden and sun terrace, complete with a huge TV to show important sports events. The rest of the year it’s easy to imagine that The Old Cock Inn Harpenden is going to be perfect for a warm and cosy meal with friends or family.

The Old Cock Inn Harpenden New Menus

We visited at lunchtime, so we ordered from the Set Menu which is available Monday to Friday 12noon-5pm with two courses for just £13.50. I ordered the Beer Battered Fish Finger Sandwich on Farmhouse Bread with Tartar Sauce and my lunch date Karen from St Albans Mums ordered the Crayfish & Chilli Marie Rose, Rocket Sandwich. Both sandwiches came with a choice of soup, salad or fries. The bread was fresh and the fish was cooked beautifully, with a deliciously tangy tartare sauce that complimented the fish perfectly. The crayfish was juicy and coated in a delicate Marie Rose sauce that had a subtle chilli kick, without being overwhelming. The chips were crispy and had some of the skin on to give them even more flavour.

There’s also a Brunch Menu available Saturday and Sunday 9am-12noon, a Main Menu featuring a great selection of over 14 main courses and a Sunday Menu with some very tasty sounding roasts.

The Children’s Menu has a range of familiar options including a 4oz Cheeseburger, Mini Fillet Chicken Burger, Penne Pasta with Roasted Tomato Sauce and I love the idea of the Children’s Picnic Board with Ham, Cheese Toastie, Hummus & Crudités, which I don’t recall seeing on any other children’s menu whenever we have eaten out.

The Old Cock Inn Harpenden also has a welcoming bar and would be the perfect spot for a few drinks in the quirky, contemporary surroundings.

The Old Cock Inn Harpenden Guest Rooms

On my visit I was also treated to a tour of the six boutique guest bedrooms upstairs. Each room at The Old Cock Inn Harpenden has its own unique style, decorated with Sanderson wallpapers and a real attention to detail: for example, every mirror has a power point underneath so that you can easily plug in hairdryers and hair styling tools. The bathrooms are gorgeous, all finished to a very high standard and rooms include a selection of luxury toiletries.

I can imagine that a stay in any of the six guest rooms would be very comfortable and they have three different rates, ranging from Very Good to Really Good and Top-Notch. The location in the centre of Harpenden is so convenient and a great base to explore the town and countryside, or a homely place to rest before a flight from nearby Luton airport, or a trip into London from the railway station nearby.

What a gem, right in the centre of Harpenden. The food was fantastic, the service was attentive and friendly. I definitely want to go back for their Sunday roast and if you need a place to stay in Harpenden then The Old Cock Inn Harpenden has to be on your list.

Visit The Old Cock Inn Harpenden website to book your table or to browse the full menus.

Disclosure: I was invited for this meal for the purpose of this review, however all the words, photographs and honest opinions are my own.
