It’s freezing cold outside, winter has definitely, finally arrived… so I was very happy this week when we were invited to enjoy some warm, indoor entertainment at the new Hollywood Bowl at intu Watford.
intu Watford is quickly becoming a favourite haunt for us. The new extension opened in September 2018 and then in December 2018 the nine screen IMAX Cineworld and Hollywood Bowl opened their doors, along with the brand new Superdry, Jack Wills, Debenhams and H&M stores. Every time we visit there’s something new to see. If you haven’t been to intu Watford recently then it’s worth re-visiting: the changes have revitalised the centre.
intu Watford bowling at Hollywood Bowl
Friday nights for us often involve a date with the sofa. The weeks seem long and hard and we now have the added joys of homework and clubs. So, this week we mixed it up and after school on Friday we headed out to intu Watford to get our weekend started at the new Hollywood Bowl. Booking online was easy but I still managed to book the wrong day (I told you the weeks are looong and I am tired). When I rang the customer care telephone line they were really helpful and able to change the day for me without any hassle.
Parking at intu Watford
If you’re driving to intu Watford then follow the signs to the Palace/Charter car parks and then park in Charter for the cinema and bowling. The good news is that intu Watford have introduced a flat rate of £2 for parking after 5pm (ending at 3am), so you can enjoy an evening of entertainment without worrying about the car parking charges racking up.
Hollywood Bowl – What to Wear?
One of the things I love about Hollywood Bowl is that they allow you to bowl in your own shoes, as long as they are flat-soled and closed toe shoes (so no heels or flip-flops), so there’s no need to change everyone into special bowling shoes. It’s worth arriving a little bit before your booked time as it can get busy. Fortunately, we only queued for a few minutes to book in and then we headed straight to our lane.
Is Hollywood Bowl Family Friendly?
As the Hollywood Bowl at intu Watford opened in December 2018, everything is brand new, the screens were easy to use and it was quick to add everyone onto the board and choose bumpers that stop the bowling ball going into the gutter. There was also one ramp for every lane, which makes such a huge difference when you’re bowling with younger children.
Another big win was being able to order drinks from the lane. I just had to press one button and a waiter came to us to take our order, so I didn’t have to leave the lane or interrupt our fun.
The boys love bowling and I love the fact that it’s an activity we can all do together. I often find myself standing on the side-lines whilst the boys are having all the fun but intu Watford bowling really is for everyone, although be aware that the recommended minimum age for a child to bowl is 4 years old.
Hollywood Bowl Bowling, Diner, Bar and Amusements
There’s a diner and a bar at the Hollywood Bowl, so after the game we went and sat in one of the booths. It really is convenient having the bowling, diner and amusements all under one roof.
Family Fun at intu Watford
An evening out at Hollywood Bowl was a great way to start the weekend and we all had a great time. The boys are already asking to go back and as well as the Hollywood Bowl there’s still the new IMAX Cineworld to visit for a film, or the Rock Up climbing centre to go to. I’m not complaining, I’m happy to embrace some indoor fun whilst it’s icy cold outside and then there’s Gourmet Burger Kitchen, MOD Pizza and Yo Sushi to try too. The only problem is trying to get everyone to agree on what we do next!
Thank you intu Watford for introducing the new flat rate of £2 for parking after 5pm (ending at 3am), so we can have fun without watching the clock.
