Willows Activity Farm is always a great day out with young children. We have been going to the Santa Spectacular event for years. Every time we go there is something new and 2016 has to the best yet! Christmas is a really exciting and special time at Willows, so what can you expect? Our visit lasted over 5 hours and we still didn’t manage to do everything. You can easily spend the whole day there, if you want to, and we left as the sun was setting, feeling tired but festive. Take a look at the video of our day at Willows Farm Santa Spectacular.
The Elf School Show is new for 2016 and we really enjoyed it. Two real elves take you through some of the special skills you need to be an elf! Santa’s elves Berry and Twig are the happiest elves I have ever met and we learnt how to tip-toe like an elf, as well as the Elf-a-Bet. At the end of the show the children received their own Elf Diploma and there were lots of smiling faces everywhere I looked.
Santa’s Grotto and Toy Shop
The highlight is the visit to Santa’s Grotto. We queued for around half an hour but the time passed quickly as you walk through a winter wonderland with different scenes, twinkling lights and animatronic figures. We saw penguins and polar bears, reindeer, elves and gingerbread men! The elves at the grotto were so happy and eager to talk to the children – they added a special sparkle to the magical experience. Santa was lovely and asked lots of questions. We now know exactly what Santa would like us to leave out for him on Christmas Eve! The boys had their golden opportunity to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas this year and Santa gave them both a golden key. We had a photo (which you can purchase after the toy shop) said our goodbyes, but the magic did not stop there. A friendly elf was waiting to take us to the Toy Shop so that The Wild One and Cub could put their magic keys in the lock and then choose one present from Santa. The Toy Shop was huge with a wide selection of gifts. It was difficult to choose but both children came away with toys that they are very pleased with.
The Create-A-Cuddle Workshop was the boys’ opportunity to build their own cuddly husky toy. The Create-A-Cuddle Workshop is included in the entry price, so you don’t need to spend any extra money to create your cuddly toy. There are outfits and accessories that you can pay extra for but only if you want to and there was no hard sell. We didn’t have to wait long to see an elf who gave us the stuffing and a little fabric heart, so that we could go and create our husky toy. They are so cuddly and cute and a great memento of a fantastic day out.
Letters to Santa
At the back of the Create-A-Cuddle Workshop is the Elves’ House and we sat down to write the all important letters to Santa. There is a post box next to the elves’ house and if you add your details to your letter and post it in the post box, then Santa will send you a reply in the post. I can’t wait to see their faces when they get their letters from Santa later this week!
This year there is a new 3D film experience as part of the Willows Santa Spectacular. It is a short film, geared towards the young Willows audience, with lots of bright colours. If you are nearly two years old and you haven’t seen a 3D film before, then this is very exciting! I kept my 3D specs off some of the time so I could watch Cub putting his hands out in front of him, trying to ‘touch’ the images that were bouncing out of the screen. You can see a taster of the 3D film in our video of our day at Willows Farm Santa Spectacular.
Willows Santa Spectacular
If all that wasn’t enough we also had fun on the synthetic Ice Rink, we met Mishka the Husky and Batman the Reindeer, we had a warm and tasty lunch in the Woolly Jumpers Soft Play Barn and we even met Peter Rabbit!
We didn’t have time to see the Nativity Story, the Sing-A-Long with Ronnie the Reindeer Show, go on the Festive Wood Tractor Ride, finish the Reindeer Hunt or our Elf Passport Stamps. The sun was setting and we were ready to go home for hot chocolate and a good sleep with dreams of snowflakes, reindeer, huskies and Santa.
If you are looking for a special day out for a festive treat in the run up to Christmas then Willows Activity Farm Santa Spectacular has to be on the list.
